A Year in Review

During the 2022/2023 fiscal year, the Newmarket Lions Club continued to live up to our motto “We Serve”.
In December, the Club’s Santa Fund program continued to support families in need. Over 1000 people were provided with food vouchers to John’s No Frills on Yonge St.
Lunch with Santa provided over 300 children and their families, with lunch, gift bags, amusements, and a free photo with Santa.
Christmas treats and clothing were provided to The Newmarket Residence for vulnerable adults.
Christmas gifts were provided to Seniors in LTC homes.
The Coats for Kids program, in conjunction with the North Newmarket Lions Club, provided over 800 winter coats to families in need in York Region and beyond.
Meals were cooked for the Inn From The Cold shelter.
Meal kits were assembled and donated to the local Food Pantry.
Our Catch the Ace lottery allowed us to provide financial support to Southlake Regional Hospital for their new mental health program.
We were able to support Camp Dorset, a camp for dialysis patients; as well as Camp Kirk, a camp for children with learning disabilities.
A donation was made to Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, to help with training new service dogs.
Toiletry kits were provided to Leeder House family shelter as well as Southlake Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Toys were donated to the Paediatric Cancer unit of Southlake Regional Hospital.
We cleaned up the community and planted trees.
We provided funds to several schools for breakfast programs.
Eyeglasses were collected for recycling.
Vision screening of kindergarten children resumed.
Our local Peace Essay Contest winner, Keaton Hamilton, went on to win the Lions International Award, competing with children from around the world! Keaton presented his speech on Lions International Day at the United Nations!
In honour of our Newmarket Lions Club’s ninetieth anniversary, we donated $100,000 to Inn From the Cold Homeless Building Fund to expand their programs to accommodate more transitional housing for clients to get back into the mainstream of life.
Our Catch the Ace lottery, generously supported by our community, allowed us to support Southlake Regional Hospital’s new mental health unit.
We welcomed several new members and so much more!
