2025-2026A Year in Review
The Newmarket Lions Club continues to serve the community and provide support for those in need.
The year started with a corn roast at the Farmers Market in support of the Food Pantry.
The Club also makes a monthly donation to the Food Pantry to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for its clients.
Back packs full of school supplies were donated to a shelter.
September found the members serving pancakes at Southlake hospital’s Paediatric cancer awareness event, PJ’s and Pancakes.
In October the Lions Clubs of Newmarket Coats for Kids program opened in the Quaker Meeting Place. Over 800 winter coats were provided to families in need. Boots, hats, mittens, gloves and scarves were also handed out.
In November and January club members prepared a meal for 125 guests of Inn from the Cold.
125 meal kits were prepared for the Food Pantry in November and the following February.
A donation was made to Comfy Cases, an organization that provides pillowcases for children in hospitals.
The Lions distributed free hot chocolate at the Santa Claus parade
In December, the Club’s Santa Fund program continued to support Newmarket families in need with food vouchers to John’s No Frills on Davis Drive-thank you John!
Lunch with Santa provided over 400 children and their families with lunch, gift bags, amusements, and a free photo with Santa.
Southlake’s paediatric cancer unit received gaming chairs and a new PlayStation.
Southlake hospital was gifted 3 patient monitors, made possible by funds from our Catch the Ace lottery.
We cleaned up a park in the community.
Toiletry kits were provided to Leeder House family shelter as well as to Southlake Regional hospital.
A softball team was sponsored.
We provided funds to elementary and high schools for nutrition programs.
Eyeglasses were collected for recycling, and eyeglasses were provided to individuals in need.
The York Region Children’s Foundation received a scholarship donation for their Stay In School program.
Our local Peace Poster Contest provided a showcase for artistic elementary school students.
A scholarship was provided to a Blind/Low vision graduating student who is pursuing a post secondary education.
The annual Effective Speaking contest allowed students to practice public speaking in both official languages, with many progressing to the Multiple District Contest held in Markham.
The Rose of Sharon received funds to provide programs for young mothers and members volunteered to pack care packages.
Able Tennis was introduced at the Seniors Meeting place during Accessible week.
